This was a 4 hour PM trip. We got out there quick on smooth waters and got baits in the water 45 min in. Hook after hook went down and came back up empty until I realized how fast we were getting picked. I told em "the second that line stops, close the bell and pull up." Sure enough, first try and a big one was on. Unfortunately, the fight ended in heartbreak when it popped the line. As I was tying a rig back on, another line got grabbed and another big fight was on. Conny fought hard to pull this beast up and only needed a little bit of hand lining toward the end. It was a big 24" Red Grouper and once he was on the deck I realized he brought our tackle back to us. Conny didn't let her nephew hear the end of that one. Something along the lines of, "you hook em and I'll catch em for ya". We took some pics, got both our hooks out and released him. We'll be back when season comes back around. We hit a couple more spots and brought in size Scamp Grouper and big Spanish Mackerel. It was a good day to go out.
