Hello everyone Capt. Vinnie here, this week in Fort Lauderdale the fishing remains excellent just like last weeks report. This week we will start on the inshore side of things, the trolling on the reef in the mornings has been exceptional for species like king mackeral, bonito and believe it or not some summer time sailfish. Depths from around 100 to 140 foot is where we have been seeing the most action on these species. Trolling a 5 rod spread with 2 planers down below the surface is going to get the bites on the kingfish, and then 3 rods fished on the surface with a variety of some just lures and others with strip baits. A spread like this will have you covered for pretty much anything you will encounter on the reef. The kingfish have been biting best in the early mornings and fresh bonito strips are going to be key to get those bites, the kingfish have been averaging around 10lbs but it is not uncommon to catch one as big as 25lbs right now. While trolling up and down the reef we have been getting a few sailfish shots this week on our surface baits. Strip baits fished with a sea witch is going to be the best combination for sailfish because the strip can take a few whacks from the billfish and still be intact unlike a ballyhoo. We have been seeing sailfish of all sizes which is a great sign that winter time sailfish action could be great this year. Moving just off the reef there has been a very solid blackfin tuna bite right now morning and afternoons, the tunas have been biting the baits fished under the surface of the water best but we have been getting a few on the surface, tuna have large eyes and tend to feed best in low light conditions so early mornings and late afternoons are always going to be the best windows if your looking for tuna. When trolling for the tunas it is important to increase your trolling speed, tunas are always on the move and when your trolling quicker you can cover more area thus giving you a better chance for a bite. As far as offshore for mahi seems the bite has slowed down a bit the fish that where here have already passed through, but that being said if you did venture offshore looking for mahi right now best bet would be to look for birds and floating debris, birds right now may not have mahi on it but there will be fish there most likely skipjack tunas, any sort of floating debris is always going to be money in the bank, I still would recommend if going offshore to look for mahi to bring some live bait like pilchards just incase you happen to come across a floater, it will be very hard for hungry mahi to say no to live bait. We should have another run of mahi here in the next week or so, be on the lookout in upcoming reports for some mahi action.
