That first 30-minute fight sounds like a serious one. The ones that break off are always the hardest to forget. Still, landing two barracudas and getting more action is a solid day on the water.

Snorkeling off the Tulum Ruins and seeing turtles and rays is always a special way to finish.

We’re also happy you liked the equipment — we do our best to keep everything in top shape. And that mahi fillet moment with the other crew? That’s the spirit out there.

He’s incredibly passionate about the Caribbean reef, the local history, and of course dialing in the right bait and trolling technique to stay consistently hooked up. Sounds like those barracudas showed up ready to play — and that 5-foot, 65-pound cuda is a serious catch. What a day.

Barracuda are usually the most active this time of year, so it’s great you landed two and had those extra hits as well. And yes, we keep trolling even for “bottom fishing” because anchoring or dropping lines directly on the reef isn’t allowed here (and we also try to protect the reef as much as possible).

About the hook-setting — totally get what you’re used to. Here we set it first so we don’t lose the fish, since the bite can be quick and we want to make sure you get the rod with something on it. But I hear you, and thanks for sharing your preference.

Really glad you came out with us, and hopefully next time you visit we’ll be in the prime season with more species running. You’re always welcome back onboard! 🎣🌊
