Techniques
My favorite fishing techniques are trolling and bait swishing. Trolling lets us cover wide areas of water while enticing pelagic predators like Bluefin Tuna and Dorado with moving lures or bait. Bait swishing, on the other hand, involves skillfully presenting live or cut bait to attract fish in a more targeted way. Both methods combine excitement and strategy, making every fishing trip dynamic and rewarding.

Today we had a taste of the tropics out at sea! The group landed one big mahi-mahi and three smaller ones, all bursting with vibrant colors and energy. We also had a white marlin come in, but it was not very aggressive and didn’t commit to the bite. A great day with wonderful company, sunshine, and exciting moments on the water!

Today, July 18th, we set out on a fishing adventure with Paul and Stuart aboard Áqua. Just 20 minutes into trolling, we hooked an incredible bluefin tuna — a true powerhouse of the ocean. Stuart took the rod and delivered a solid, skillful fight. The battle was intense, showcasing both the strength of the fish and the determination of the angler. After a thrilling struggle and once the tuna had been brought alongside the boat, we carefully unhooked it and released it back into the sea in perfect condition qstrong, healthy, and ready to swim free again. Another unforgettable moment aboard Áqua. The ocean gave us a challenge and we answered with respect and passion.

Catch & Release Report – July 3rd, 2025 Today, aboard the Áqua, we embarked on a remarkable big-game fishing trip off the coast of Tavira, focused on the catch and release of Atlantic bluefin tuna (Thunnus thynnus). The sea conditions were calm with light swell, and the water temperature hovered around 23.6 °C — ideal for trolling with artificial lures. During the morning session, we had two extraordinary encounters with true giants of the sea. The first tuna was hooked at 08:42 AM. After a demanding 36-minute fight, we managed to bring it boat-side. The fish was estimated to weigh approximately 200 kg, with a powerful, imposing frame. It was cleanly hooked in the corner of the jaw, which allowed for a safe and efficient release. After a short revival alongside the boat, it swam away strongly in excellent condition. The second tuna struck at 11:10 AM and delivered a truly epic battle. The fight lasted 48 minutes, marked by deep, sustained runs and bursts of raw power. This fish was estimated to weigh around 250 kg — a true monster. Although it took longer to recover after the fight, it was successfully released after careful revival, swimming back into the depths with strength and confidence. Both captures were made using heavy-duty, high-performance gear designed for this caliber of sportfishing. As always, we practiced responsible catch-and-release techniques to ensure the health and sustainability of the species. It was an unforgettable day aboard the Áqua, filled with adrenaline, awe, and a deep respect for the ocean. Encounters like these remind us why we fish — and why we protect.

And yet… that’s when it happened. A sudden strike, blistering runs, and we were locked in an unforgettable battle with a mako shark. This wasn’t just a consolation prize — it was a high-octane encounter that tested both angler and gear. Pure adrenaline. The crew handled it like pros: sharp instincts, seamless coordination, and respect for the fish and the sea. Fishing isn’t just about the target species — it’s about being out there when something extraordinary happens. That’s what Áqua delivers. When others came back empty, we came back with a story no one will forget. Highly recommended for those who understand that real offshore fishing isn’t a guarantee — it’s a gamble that sometimes pays out in mako-sized memories.
