I along with my teenage son and two of his friends had a fantastic time with Captain Bobby and Alyssa this weekend. They suggested an adjustment to our trip to maximize our catch (and our fun), and boy was it worth it. We were catching fish left and right until we hit our limit. Then we got to try a couple of other firshing techniques and locations. Bobby is a patient and effective teacher, and they both went out of their way all day to make sure we had a fun and memorable experience. Very personable, fun to talk to, and clearly there for their clients. We’ll be back.

Captain Bobby and 1st mate Alyssa will treat you like family, show you how to be a great angler if you need guidance, and oh my you will reel in the fish! My 16 year old niece and I have come back to Crystal river 3 years in a row now for the sole purpose of going out on their charter, it has always been the highlight of our stay here. My teenager can be guarded and standoffish at times, but Bobby stepped right up, made her smile, be engaged, and feel like family; not a “customer “ he took her under his wing like she was his own niece. Captain Bobby is just a genuine, down home great guy. He takes you back to his place, cleans the fish, and offers hospitality that is rare these days. We went out fishing with Bobby and Alyssa on 3/3. It was great experience, from the moment we arrived at their dock. After our sea sickness abated, we caught lots of sheaphead and grunts. They were both very helpful, in giving us tips for salt water fishing. I would not hesitate to go fishing on the Native Fishing Charter again. In fact we’re already planning our trip for next year !

Our experience with this charter was fantastic from start to finish, even with a few weather challenges along the way. The captain made it very clear from the beginning that safety was the top priority, especially for an 80-mile run out into the Gulf of Mexico. Our first trip was canceled due to storms, but rescheduling was a breeze, and the communication during the delay was much better than I expected. One tip for anyone booking: they stay busy, so if nature decides it’s not your day, trust the captain and reschedule — it’s always better to wait for the right conditions.

Our next available date was about a month out, which unfortunately meant gag grouper were no longer in season, but it was still absolutely worth going. The boat was ready and waiting when we arrived, with plenty of room to store our sandwiches and drinks. My advice: pack light and bring a good 6” brim hat — you’re heading out on a 27-foot boat, not a 50-footer, so plan accordingly.

We did encounter more weather on the second attempt, and the night before, the captain reached out to let us know we’d be pulling back to a more inshore run (~50 miles) for safety. He even offered us the option to cancel last-minute if we preferred. We chose to go, and the ride out was surprisingly smooth thanks to the catamaran hull. The layout is ideal for four anglers and two crew members — I wouldn’t push beyond that unless everyone knows how to handle themselves on a smaller vessel.

Once we got to the fishing grounds, the captain introduced us to some light-rig techniques I hadn’t tried before, and they worked great. We caught plenty of grunts, a few mangrove snapper, and a solid number of hogfish — a rare catch without spearfishing! Quick reflexes and a good feel for the bite paid off. We even landed a couple of beautiful 14 lb grouper, though they were out of season. The ride back was even smoother than the ride out, and once we returned to the dock, we had plenty of space to relax while the crew cleaned our catch — a hands-off process unless you want to jump in and help.

All in all, this was a great charter with a knowledgeable, safety-minded captain and a well-run operation. Even with weather changes and scheduling adjustments, it was a day well spent on the water and an excellent value for the experience.

Capt. Bobby and his wife Alyssa are the perfect duo for taking you out for the perfect fishing trip. From the time we booked, he called and introduced himself, spoke a little about himself and what we should expect to fish for. We did a 30 mile offshore. The conditions were unfortunately a bit rough, but capt. Bobby was determined to find us fish and boy did he. We caught all kinds of fish. Grunts, Mangrove snapper, hogfish, Spanish mackerel,porgie and cobia. We had to release the cobia and hogfish because they were undersized but nevertheless we caught a lot of fish on a day with not so great conditions.
