What would you recommend to anglers fishing in Punta Gorda, Florida for the first time?

Go out with realistic expectations based on time of year and conditions. Current weather patterns, tides, water temp etc.. always have something to due with the catch.

Dress warm even if it is sunny. We had full sun but the temp was only 70 degrees and it was cool out on the water.

Sunscreen, and discuss with the captain if you think you need a bathroom during your charter. There are options.

Make sure the weather is OK to fish outside of the shore so you don’t have to fish next to people on docks they blamed it on red tide coming in from the lake that was overflowing Okeechobee

That not all fish are keepers and you have to respect that. Let your captain know what type of fish you want to catch before heading out.

Would recommend, we still had a successful fishing trip but sounds like the water being its warmest in Aug makes the bite slow. Still had a great time and reeled some in!

If your guide says to meet you in a harbor farther away than your lodging, it is probably to get you closer to a launch allowing for a quick trip to deeper waters. Let them be the experts.

Get a good fishing guide like Captain Rich. The weather in February is mild . The fishing is fantastic!
