What would you recommend to anglers fishing in Cancún, Quintana Roo for the first time?

check what species are around the time of year you’re going to be here so you know what to expect

this is a great boat and crew – I’ll fish with them every time I come back to Cancun

I would leave the young kids with mom for the day and go have yourself some fun.

I was really skeptical about going after finding out that Marlin and Mahi Mahi season just ended but was pleasantly surprised with fishing for Barracuda. We had a blast and had a really good crew.

Great trip! Our guide said that finishing is a bit better earlier in the summer but we caught plenty of fish!

It wasn’t very busy but we went deep sea for bigger fish and I feel we did well with each of us bringing one onboard.

Make sure you reserve with an experience captain that knows the area. Also read the reviews of the previous anglers.

Don’t plan on catching sailfish in July. In hindsight I wish we would have stayed shallow and went after other fish than spending an extra hour going to deep water to try to catch Sailfish.

Bring your own gear if you have the correct gear. Have the deckhand bait you up and set up trolling rigs and use their knowledge, but allow you to take it from there unless your a beginner.

You don't go fly fishing in Cancun to learn fly fishing, should be able to hit a 3 - 5ft circle (max) at 40 - 50 ft (min) if you expect a good shot while Sight Fishing.

Definitely start with a lagoon fishing trip to make sure you do not get seasick l, then go for the bigger trips!

Bring lots of sunscreen and cover up as you are in the sun all day. Tip well as these people work hard making your dreams come true.

get to the marina early an hour if possible because of Uber cancellations and the security at the marina and the distance from the gate to the boat and leave time to run a credit card over a phone.

Take dramamine if you're sensitive. The wind was about 15mph and has been all week making the water a little choppy

It was our first time fishing in Cancun, and we lived this captain and team. They made it all so comfortable and easy for us. Great crew.

Just remember it is fishing … not catching !!! So be patient and bring a good attitude!! And weather plays a big part in ocean fishing !!! Tight lines and be safe !!!

This is for someone who truly wants an offshore fishing experience! Always remember you are fishing in the ocean so there will be waves!

Yes but it would be wise to let the rookie tourists know that the seas can be rough so sea sickness is a strong possibility. Other boats were head in early because of seasickness.

Half day (four hours) is not enough.....do a 6 hour minimum! getting live bait can eat up some good fishing time.

If you want to catch barracuda then stay close to shore. If you have a longer trip and go out deep you may catch less but will be bigger fish

If you book on a smaller boat expect to get a little wet as the wind and waves can be unpredictable.

It’s definitely a fun trip and would highly recommend for avid or first time fishermen/fisherwomen.

Make sure you contact your Captain before you book and get all your questions answered and let them know what you are looking for.

Make you you take non drowsy dramamine even if you don't think you'll get sick also don't forget to drink water and wear sun protection a hat and sunglasses!

Check out the winds, and if there is a lot of wind, stay inshore. Otherwise you”ll be fishing for 20 minutes on a 4hrs trip

Don’t fish in February because water is very choppy. On the plus side though, captain and the crew will not have to chump the water haha.

Always look for guides that have been fishing the area their whole life or for a generational guide service. The ones whose father fished and has passed it on.
