After finishing the repower/rewire of the entire boat today was the day to shake it out. The new Suzuki 200 is super quiet and has plenty of power. Pulled up on one spot with a pint of shrimp just to see what was home and in an hour and a half I had my 5 speckled trout and 3 really nice black drum. The trout bite was fast and strong and the drum are just a nice bonus.

Spring break 2023 starts March 13. Book your trip today. It’s a typical springtime pattern, days of fog, then wind, then sun. Fishing is good, lots of redfish and sheephead at the jetties, huge black drum are showing in the channel and a few trout mixed in for good measure.

Met Sharon and Bill at the bost ramp at 1:00 in cloudy and cool confitions. Bill had never caught a Bull Red so that was a need to do. We made the run to the jetties, stopping on the inside. We caught a few whiting and a nice black drum. After a couple of hours we went out and around and got set up on the outside. I had Sharon and Bill fishing live shrimp toward the rocks while I threw out a couple of big rods with cut whiting for bait. They caught a few trout toward the rocks and Bill got his Bull Red. We called it a day and as I was securing everything for the ride back the big rod went off again. Sharon got this one, landed it, took a few photos and let it go to swim another day. All in all a great January afternoon on the water.

I’ve been bouncing around between weather systems catching redfish, sheephead and a few trout. We can start keeping flounder again on the 15th. If you want something to stuff other than turkey for christmas lets go fish!

Its that time of year! If you like a heavy pull without leaving the bay now is your time if year. From now thru September, the red drum spawn is happening and there’s no better chance to land a true trophy than right now!

I met the Cook family in Bolivar for an afternoon of fishing since the morning weather was supposed to be wet. We made our way out to the north jetty thru patchy fog and got tight on the anchor. Using live shrimp for bait, we caught some really huge sheepshead and black drum. It wasn’t every cast but did manage enough for a good fry while they are in town for the weekend.
