Today was a fantastic day out on the water. The weather couldn’t have been better—calm, sunny, and perfect for chasing silver salmon. Right away, we started seeing silver salmon biting, and we were happy to see so many smiles as folks reeled in strong, healthy fish. As captain, it’s always great to share my experience and help people have a successful, fun day. If you’re looking to catch silver salmon on a nice day, I’d love to have you join me for an unforgettable trip.

Both kids and adults caught plenty of lively fish, most weighing 6 to 10 pounds, especially using live bait and bright spinners just after sunrise. The river conditions were excellent—clear water, steady levels, and a light breeze—making for a perfect day. Captain Ray expects the good fishing to continue, encouraging everyone to come out and experience this exciting salmon run.

Captain Ray led a successful trip on the Knik River, landing several fresh silver salmon. The fish were biting early, with most action near gravel bars using spinners and eggs. The silvers were bright, healthy, and put up a great fight. Conditions were cloudy and cool—a perfect day on the river.

Make sure you dress in layers, especially if your starting at 5 a.m. It might not seem that cold when you walk out your front door, but it is much cooler along the river. I was glad I took gloves, just wished I would have worn some Under Armour to keep my legs warmer.
