We have been blessed with a warming trend here in central texas and it has continued to ramp up our fishing. The white bass have been staging at their classic areas to spawn and they are very hungry. These fish provide lots of action and fun and a generally pretty easy to catch which is perfect for kids and novice anglers. The stripers and hybrids havent been too far behind and we are catching those on live bait and the fly. Largemouth bass have also been biting out deep and up shallow. I highly reccommend booking the date you want now because half of march and half of april are already booked up. Midweek morning trips fish the best this time of year. Afternoon trips work well too especially the fly trips in the afternoon.

There is no secret that Austin offers some incredible fishing but there is a special lake a short drive from downtown and the airport. Lake Walter E Long or Lake decker as commonly called has a high density population of Largemouth bass and Hybrid Striped bass in both numbers and size! Lake Buchanan has been fishing very well recently but I had a day off from guiding so I am always looking to fish and try new techniques in different waters so I decided to spend a afternoon on lake decker to try fly fishing. With the lake being small in size its easy to cover a lot of water with the flies. Our first big bite came and to my surprise it was a largemouth and a good one too a solid five pounder! We kept covering water and then we got another big bite and this one pulled off a bunch of line and quite the fight later a very large hybrid striped bass 24 inches and 6.5 pounds an absolute blast on the fly tackle. We wound up catching more hybrids and largemouth throughout the rest of the trip a true success on the new fly technique.
