Captain Michael Oppegaard comes from a fishing family. His grandparents owned a “fish camp” on Lea Island (Old Topsail) before WWII so the family ties started before the island was even developed. Michael’s grandfather expanded the Sound Pier only three years after he purchased it in 1963. The family ran it successfully for four decades. So saying that Michael grew up with a fishing pole in his hand would be an understatement!

The crowds have thinned this time of year and the water is crystal clear. Now is the time to sight fish for redfish. For something different there is always Stripers on the Cape Fear. Don't let the weather keep you inside. This is my favorite time of year for technical fishing.
