Matahi and Tau covered all of our needs from answering questions after booking to arranging transportation, (most importantly) catching fish, sending us back to our hotel with a filet, and following up with footage of our catches (2 marlin!!!!).
My wife and I are on our honeymoon and she is not much of an angler, but Matahi kept us both entertained by explaining the features of the island, the patterns of the birds leading us to fish, and answering all of our many questions. Tau worked tirelessly rigging lures, landing fish, and keeping the lines at the right distances. We didn’t get a chance to do deep sea fishing the Moorean way, but that was only because we had two big marlin on board on a hot sunny day (not a bad problem to have!) We had a blast and would highly recommend booking with Matahi.

This trip was just a reminder of why I love the ocean and how much I have missed it this past year. Captain Matt and his first mate were great. Very accommodating and knowledgeable about fishing and the local culture/history. Fishing was exciting and makes me want to come back to try for more variety of fish.

The lunch was appetizing and was surprising at the care and thoughtfulness that was taken to prepare and serve. Not the run of the mill sandwich with potato chips. It was also, very tasty.

We did catch some nice size Skip Jack not behemoths but enough to make you work your biceps. Great trip and crew. If you like fishing, you should definitely give Captain Matt a try. Cannot wait to come back.

We had the most amazing day with Matahi and his crew mate. We caught two Mahi Mahi, at the same time! Our bull Dorado was massive. Matahi catered to our every request and his boat was immaculate. He went above and beyond for us, even making us the best sandwiches we’ve ever had. He really knows where to catch fish. They both were so nice and answered all of our questions. They really wanted to make sure we had a great time and they didn’t disappoint. Matahi even arranged a taxi for us, and Paulina is someone we absolutely LOVE. We had met her a couple times before today and she is so funny and personable. Today could not have gone better ❤️

If you love to go fishing for big fish then this is your tour.  The boat captain Matahi was so pleasant and informative and welcoming.  He greeted us six ladies at our dock right on time and got all six of us comfortable and ready for our tour.  We were fishing in deep waters within 20 minutes and had a skip jack tuna on the hook and got the first catch in the cooler.  We had rented a house so we wanted to bring back fish to cook for the week.  In July I was told by a local the Mahi Mahi is rare to catch but we caught two.  We also caught 3 skip jack tuna. It was windy and the waves were a little rough and we only had two of the ladies tumble off their seat but the Captain slowed up and they got back on the bench and we continued the hunt.  It was beautiful to see the island from deep waters and we were told some history of Moorea.  When we were dropped off back at the dock, of the five fish,  we got to keep the smaller Mahi Mahi and two of the tuna.  I thought we would get all our catch so we would bbq for the week but it wasn’t discussed prior to the tour we wouldn’t get all our fish.  I did feel like I was arguing to keep our catch with Matahi at the dock as he was saying the fish goes back to feed the community and their families.  I was thinking I paid for the trip so I paid for the fish.  If he had asked if he could keep some fish for his family or community I would have gladly offered but we would have kept the biggest Mahi Mahi and given them the other one and a couple of the tuna.  I am not sure if this is protocol to have to give up part of your catch to the boat crew or if it’s expected but I am letting you all know that with six ladies this is what happened.  I just didn’t like the fact that I was having to fight for what we caught to take it back to our house to cook for the week.  That would be the only negative for the tour.  I am just grateful we had a couple of fish so we could enjoy the freshest catch.  It was an incredible experience that will always be cherished!  Colene from Phoenix Arizona USA
