What would you recommend to anglers fishing in Honolulu, Hawaii for the first time?

Know any fishing anywhere is subjected to luck. You need to plan on having a good time and be pleasantly surprised if you get a catch. You never know if you get one or not anywhere so take that into consideration.

Reeling in a marlin is a “bucket list” experience. If you’re looking to take home fish you should look for a boat that is targeting smaller fish. If you want to take your chances to catch the fish of a lifetime and look for Marlin then I highly recommend five star fishing.

Do it! It’s fishing. Not catching! But if you’re somewhat of a fisherman or outdoors person, you’d understand. Sometimes the fish has the better of you and sometimes you have the better of them. The important thing is to pay attention to the crew to see how they are changing up rigs and tactics to put you on fish!

Make sure the captain and crew are knowledgeable about what you are catching. There are a lot of endangered species or illegal to catch fish in hawaii so if not could get in some big trouble real fast

This is definitely a first time, small catch, family fun type of outing. Boat was great for a party of 4, unsure how it would be for more people. Please note, taking seasick meds with you is probably a good idea, even if you think you won't need them.

Pay more $$$ if you want to catch fish. The kind of fush caught was like going to a fish pond, not going sea fishing.

Keep an open mind even when things are looking slow. Capt and the deckhand want you to hook and land these fish.

The sea conditions weren’t the best, too calm, but the crew overcame and we hooked many times.

It's seasonal. Do research to find out what's biting. Many areas are overfished.

Make sure to bring stuff to make you comfortable. Bring stuff for snacks and sea sickness

Was a slower day but the captain uses his knowledge to land us some fish while other boats had no bites. Big blue gambling and it is fun.

Go on the cheapest boat possible since they don’t catch many fish from what we were told by captain

Fishing was good. Better than July in my opinion, but a great captain and crew make all the difference. Waters were moderate-not to rough, not to calm.

Finding the fish and getting them to bite is the hardest part so I recommend setting your expectations likewise. Also, be prepared for rough seas if you tend to get seasick.

Please vet the people. We were not one the boat that we booked, and the captain was not the person I booked with. We felt scammed!!

Book a full day versus a half day, allow the captain the time to get you out to the less fished hot spots

We called a lot of fish. We did some trolling and some bottom fishing from what we heard. We were catching more fish and other boats in the area.

Definitely go for all day. It gives you the best chances of catching fish. Bring Dramamine! We have a boat and have never been sea sick and a couple people were throwing up.

Be aware that waters are never calm here , minimum 6-8 ft seas . If you are prone to sea sickness I would not recommend. Fishing is great here but ya gotta have iron stomach to rough the ride ?

We did very well! Not every trip will be successful since its called "fishing". There's not a guarantee you will catch multiple fish on a 4 hour trip. We got lucky!!

Expect High Seas. Photo ops were tough due to the weather. Other than that, one for the scrapbook of the mind, for sure! ❤️???

It was our first time going out fishing in the ocean and in Hawaii; so yes it was a good time for me. I don’t have anything else to compare it to.

Jigging takes rhythm and angling skills. So don’t give up or get frustrated. Trust the process, it’s more rewarding than trolling, netting, etc.

Yes and no. Anglers should have experience from generally fishing. Might not be the best for the first time angler.

Bring sunscreen on the boat, drinks and snacks, it’s only three hours but it’s a long three hours if you’re not catching fish.

Water was a little rough with 5 to 7 foot seas, so be sure to get information on the conditions if you are prone to motion sickness.

Do the 8 hour trip at least. It is a different type of fishing and you have to give the Captain a chance to put you on the fish.

Be sure to take meds for nausea or wear a patch if needed. Definitely recommend deep sea fishing in Hawaii.
