What would you recommend to anglers fishing in Galveston, Texas for the first time?

I would recommend hiring a charter if you want to catch quality fish. If a charter is out of your budget, I recommend 61st street fishing pier...you will be able to get helpful fishing tips and techniques from experienced local anglers

Familiars yourself with your fishing location and make sure you tip them. Jerry and Brian the Deck Hand work their butts off and I tipped them more than my budget allowed. When you get good work pay them accordingly.

This was our first time fishing in Galveston. We caught the biggest fish I've ever caught. I would highly recommend it. You'll have a great time and priceless memories. My only regret this trip is that we didn't catch anything we could keep and eat, but I'll make a meal of those pictures and bragging rights for atleast a year.?

We waited and booked when we knew the water and weather were good. Very kid friendly and we learned a lot about the fishing. I would book again. My boy will remember his big catch for the rest of his life.

Be sure to get your license before the store closes. Walmart and academy close early. Walmart stops selling license at 10. I would recommend going to the marina bait shop. It opens at 6:00 am and is right there.

The conditions were not ideal but Mike an Travis found the fish and we had a great time. They were very tentative to my wife with it being her first time on a fishing boat. They supplied everything else needed.

It definitely was advantageous and fun filling! We had so much fun. Boyfriend took his pole, but the captain provides everything including filleting the fishes. We caught 2 reds and sheep head. The weather was beautiful. I'll recommend this charter

Find a good boat and book a private trip. The captains will be better at teaching and helping during the trip.

We were very lucky when it came to the weather on our particular day. Not too cold, not windy, just right.

Be prepared for weather changes. Went from sunny, warm, and calm on day one to cold and windy on day two.

Be ready for an experience that isn’t described in words, but in going and doing it. Go. Do. Galveston fishing. You won’t regret it.

Make sure you have a guide who has some early Winter patterns figured out. Fishing can be tricky in November due to possible wide variations in weather conditions.

Don't get discouraged some days you can fill up the cooler and other days you don't bring home anything that's just how fishing goes.

If you know you don’t get sea sick, do at least a 4 hour trip. If you aren’t sure if you will get sea sick or not, the 2 hour trip was perfect. Take lots of pictures.

Booking a trip is a great idea. I've been making random trips to Galveston for a few years, but the information and suggestions we got from the charter captain was priceless.

Come around early October for sure. And if you want to keep/eat any red drums make sure to buy tags when you purchase your online license.

The weather was perfect! Dress comfortably and take plenty of water & snacks. make sure your phone is charged so you can take lots of pictures of all the fish you catch.

We’d recommend calling your Cptn upon approach to the dock/slip for specific directions as MapQuest will more than likely get it wrong. Ask me how I know! ?

Fished 2 days on pier and the charter, bite was off all 3 days. Never know what the weather will do with the fishing. Sometimes great, sometimes ok. But always a good place to fish

Yes, fishing in September in Galveston is a great time to catch really nice fish. I would recommend going with someone like Captain Kemp if you need services.

Had a slower time when we went (12-4pm) but still had a great time! Sounded like it was busier in the morning. Next trip will likely do the morning trip.

It's a little too hot, next time would go in October/November or in the Spring, but that highly depends on weather.

If you’re going to take motion sickness medication (as a precaution) - start taking it 24 hrs ahead of time and consider the non-drowsy formula! ?

Sunscreen & a patch if you think you could become sea sick or even if you’re not sure. You won’t need too many snacks. Water is great to have.

Bring lots of water and make sure you eat a snack before you go so you don’t get sea sick like some people in our crew did??
