What would you recommend to anglers fishing in Galveston, Texas for the first time?

Lots of sunscreen, and dont over do it, we had 4 on beck plus two captians. So 6 will be good, we just enjoyed the room with 4 of us.

Using the right bait is key..Our captain got us on the meat right away .Big Tex Fishing Charter is THE BEST..

This was my 1st time so I may be biased but weather was an issue to a degree, wind/waves determined where we fished rather than where we wanted to. But it was really fun overall!

Be careful about going out when it is too hot. Stay hydrated and be open to the experience, no matter what you end up bringing home.

We caught our limit on red snapper and had a great time. A clear sunny day and small waves added to the trip.

You’re not gonna catch every fish you hook up with…enjoy the fight and keep putting a line in the water. You never know when you’re gonna land a personal best!

I would suggest not targeting a specific species but enjoy the experience of whatever is biting on your particular day.

Smaller groups are better. We had a group of 6. Def book in spring time or mid fall for best catching per our capt. otherwise super fun experience for sure!!

Just breath don’t eat anything before heading out if you get sick easy stay calm even in not so good waters the captain knows what there doing

Have better luck with weather and everything else they did just go thru a hurricane and things made have been hard for everyone

Dont get your hopes up too high because you never know how fishing is going to go. But it will be worth the wait!

Bring sunscreen and lots of water or something like Pedialyte. There is little shade on the ocean. Depending on what species you target, prepare for a workout.

They are very attentive to the young fishers. If you have young children or teenagers this is the charter you should take. Great people

Make sure you drink plenty of water and have plenty of sunscreen. I highly recommend picking a charter (2 Reel Charters is who we picked) because they will know where a lot of fish are.

We had rough water, wind and a hard time finding fish. Storms were brewing and fish were not biting

Dramamin started the night before. Bring sunscreen, battery operated fan, drinks, snacks and a good attitude.

The temperature was great but the wind was a problem and kept us nearer to the shore than we liked. Weather in May is varied so you just have to keep that in mind.

If this is your first time fishing Galveston, take the time to hire a captain. It will be a great experience and well worth the expense.

Get your fishing license several days in advance. Can take a couple of hours if there are people ahead of you in line.

Just check the wind speed. We went out on a pretty windy day and we still caught some but im sure it's much nicer out there when the wind is calm
